alone

I just love good quotes, as i am sure most of you do too.

"We, who are so schooled in the art of listening to the voices of others, can often hear our own voice only when we are alone... For many women, the first choice, then, is to give ourselves the necessary time and space in which to renew our acquaintance with our lost voice, to learn to recognize it, and to rejoice as we hear it express our truth."

Just lovely, and so true too. It is very easy to see what happens to us when we do not get that alone time. I think a lot of people (women especially)spend the majority of their time worrying and caring about others, and they lose themselves in the shuffle.

On a personal level, I am one that requires vast amounts of time in solitude-and when I don't get it, watch out.

My brother and best freind are the exact opposite-they both thrive on being around people all the time. Phone calls, emails, visits--he doesn't like being alone. I don't get it at all. I've been known to "drop off the face of the earth" at times-not returning calls (I know, I know, it's not nice)and cancelling on social events.

I just can't deal sometimes.

But I think it's better if we allow ourselves what we need, because ultimately, it leads to a happier existence for all.

Sorry for the hijack-you struck a nerve.

Natty ~ I like this quote. It's so true. Is it you who needs alone time, or are you prescribing it to others?

LuniBird ~ Boy oh boy, do I relate to every word you said.

I just related to it quite a bit. I know i need time alone too... otherwise i get really cranky. In fact, if i am at a party, i will actually take a few minutes and escape just to clear my head.

Me too! When we were in Turkey, I would sneak off quite a bit (blogging, reading, just looking out the window at the water.) I need quiet time.

Natasha-I have to say, I am eally enjoying the "word of the day" feature on this blog. They are usually pretty obscure. Fantastic. Thanks.
