yay or nay

Head count:
45 yays
8 nays

I know I promised a blog about teen leaders, but I think I have to pass on it this week. Time is flying by now probably because i have been soooo busy!! I cant believe I'm getting married in 1 month and 29 days! Do you believe that crap? I still have some things to do, like my homework for the minister who's marrying us. We both have to write something down about why we love each other and why we chose each other. Who has the time?

I also have to write some stuff down for the DJ, but that can wait a couple more weeks. Other than that though, I really have decided not to make a big fuss over the details. I wasn't completely thrilled with having a big wedding (if 100 people is big by today's standards), but I know Rob really wanted one and I suppose it is kinda fun! We really tried to do the bare minimum with the exception of the photographer (big surprise there!) and I told him I wanted to hire a make-up and hair person to come to the house that morning..... 'It's supposed to be a relaxing day for me, so I want to get ready at home'.

Those were my only two stipulations. Pretty much everything else just kinda came together.

We got our first gift by mail today. My cousin's wife sent us a nice corningware set with a carrying case - i guess she cant make the shower. I know the shower is coming soon, but not sure what day it is. And to be perfectly honest I dont want to know. I am being a bad girl and peeking at my registry now and then. I know I know... its bad, but i cant help myself.

Most of all, I am looking forward to spending my life with Rob - a sweet, loving, hard-working man who adores me. We laugh so much together and it has definitely made an impact on our love. I highly recommend laughing with your spouse at every opportunity!

Africa-bound!

I have a blog I am working on about "teen leaders" but my schedule has been so jam packed it's very difficult to sit down and actually concentrate on writing something somewhat meaningful and interesting.

HOWEVER, my very dear friend Polly - humanitarian, unconditional-giver, and adventurer - left for South Africa yesterday on a mission to teach the local people how to farm, compost and other "earthy" stuff. She's very excited, as she has been to Africa once before on a similar mission a few years back. If she is able, she will be blogging from South Africa about her experiences. You can read about her experience here.

Ironically enough, Miss Polly is not the only one heading to another continent far, far away. My cousin Christopher left for Rwanda on Friday. Chris is an extremely talented videographer. He's done a lot of editing on movies and commercials and has a pretty awesome video "resume" from what I hear. He's working with a non-profit organization called One Acre Fund. You can learn more about them by visiting their website. Chris will be videoing the projects and progress of One Acre Fund for about 3 weeks.

His mom sent us all an email yesterday with a short update of his whereabouts:

Just a quick update to let you know I talked to Chris this afternoon and he has arrived safely to his destination in the countryside of Rwanda. He left Friday very early and arrived in Cigali (spelling? - the capital of Rwanda) yesterday. He stayed one night in an apt. of one of the workers for the agency and then was put on a bus for the 6 hour trip to his final destination. He is staying in the house of the founder of "one acre fund" and will start filming tomorrow (Monday, March 17th). He is VERY tired but said the country is absolutely beautiful. All his equipment arrived safely with him as well. He has already stretched his culinary palate to include goat shish kabab. I'll keep you all updated as I hear from him. He is scheduled to be back the end of the month.

I dont know if Chris is keeping a blog. He hadnt mentioned it in any emails, but if I hear more, I'll be posting the updates.
